![]() ![]() Andrés has earned numerous awards including the 2015 National Humanities Medal, one of 12 distinguished recipients of the award from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The Michelin Guide, owned by the French tire manufacturer, is the world’s most widely recognized authority on fine dining. Together with World Central Kitchen and #ChefsForPuertoRico, Andrés served over 3.8 million meals in Puerto Rico following the devastation of Hurricane Maria in 2017, and has continued to help food relief efforts in every natural disaster since. ![]() As a naturalized citizen, originally from Spain, Andrés has been a tireless advocate for immigration reform. Andrés is the only chef globally that has both a two-star Michelin restaurant and four Bib Gourmands. Since he opened the restaurant in 1993, the great chef Berasategui has been winning awards and has become the chef with most Michelin stars in Spain and third. Unlike most star rating systems, one star is not a bad thing. In 1931, the rating system expanded to become the Michelin three-star rating that continues today. The restaurants, all of which were in France, were awarded a single star if they were deemed a fine dining establishment. Restaurant Gordon Ramsay opened in 1998, and quickly received the most prestigious accolade in the culinary world three Michelin stars. Andrés’ restaurant group includes 31 restaurants, ranging in a variety of culinary experiences from food trucks to his multi-location vegetable-focused fast casual, Beefsteak, and world-class tasting menus like Michelin starred minibar by José Andrés. The first Michelin Star ratings were given in 1926. Named as one of Time Magazine’s “100 Most Influential People” in both 20, and “Outstanding Chef” and “Humanitarian of the Year” by the James Beard Foundation, Andrés is an internationally-recognized culinary innovator, New York Times bestselling author, educator, television personality, humanitarian and chef/owner of ThinkFoodGroup.
